SUMMARY:Hello the Mushroom Digital Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This digital exhibition was curated by the artist Hello the Mushroom in 2019 for our Day of the Dead festival. It features work from artists from all over the world\, on the themes of Death Positivity and The Day of the Dead. \nYou will also be able to view a selection of printed pieces in the cabinet at Wanstead Library. \nThe resulting submissions range from reinterpretations of the Mexican Day of the Dead imagery to other more personal approaches to the theme\, all of them full of life\, depth and thought-provoking. \nHello the Mushroom is a London-based artist whose work can be found on the streets and in galleries. Her work is mostly based on collage and other reworked found imagery. It takes a humorous approach to female empowerment\, sexuality\, body image and beauty standards as well as reflecting her recovery from a life-threatening form of cancer. Her work often features skulls representing the transience of life while challenging us to re-evaluate our life’s purpose and priorities. \n🎟️ Book Now

SUMMARY:Festival of the Dead Lantern Making Workshops - Ilford
DESCRIPTION:[vc_column_text css_animation=”none”] \nMake your own magical Day of the Dead themed lantern to remember the life of a loved one – choose between a cylinder or globe design\, then take part in a fabulous lantern fiesta parade with the Lantern Company! \nPlease note\, this craft activity will involve the use of Sharpies and staplers\, and will require some parental supervision. \nCraft workshops can be messy\, so it’s best to wear or bring some old clothes. \nBooking Essential. (A limited number of spaces will be available on the day on a first come first served basis.) \nIt is up to you which lantern you would prefer! We would recommend the cylinder design for children under 7yrs as it can be laid flat to colour and then stapled together. \nWe recommend the globe design for children over 7yrs\, younger children may find it difficult to colour on a round surface. \nSupported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England \nThis event is part of our Festival of the Dead Programme – click here to see what else is on! \n🎟️ Book Now

SUMMARY:Festival of the Dead - Who is Death? - Ilford
DESCRIPTION:[vc_column_text css_animation=”none”] \nJoin artist Tess Tallula for a gentle and creative drop-in craft activity inspired by her children’s book This is Death. Children can make their own clay figures – unique interpretations of Death as a kind and comforting character who helps guide us to whatever comes next. \nDrop-in\, free activity – but space may limited at times \nTess Tallula is an artist and author of two children’s books. Her work is multilayered and mixed media\, blending textiles and craft techniques with traditional two and three dimensional art forms. In both her art practice and her storybooks\, she navigates themes of memory\, emotion\, and interconnectedness\, inviting viewers on their own introspective journeys. Saccharine memento mori\, smiling skulls\, flowers and ghostly spirits act as a way to process grief and celebrate the circularity of life and our place in the universe. These seemingly otherworldly or fantastical scenes are intensely familiar recreations of something innate and unspoken. \nWww.Tesstallulaart.Com \nSupported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England \nThis event is part of our Festival of the Dead Programme – click here to see what else is on! \n🎟️ Book Now
