ILFORD MARKET
TRADER TERMS & CONDITIONS
These Terms and Conditions form part of the agreement between the Market Operator, Ilford BID, Events Inspire, the London Borough of Redbridge and the Trader. By submitting an application and trading at Ilford Market, traders agree to comply with all requirements contained within this document.
- GENERAL CONDITIONS
1.1 Non-Transferable Licences
Stalls, pitches, licences and trading agreements are strictly non-transferable. Sub letting, sharing, assignment or transfer of a pitch to another trader is prohibited without the prior written consent of the Market Operator.
1.2 Pitch Allocation
The allocation of pitches and stall locations remains entirely at the discretion of the Market Operator. Pitch locations may change daily, weekly or for specific events and no rights are acquired through previous allocations.
1.3 Operator Decisions
The decisions of Redbridge Council, Ilford BID, Events Inspire and the Market Operator regarding market operations, pitch allocations, product categories, branding standards and market management shall be final.
1.4 Fees and Payments
All pitch fees must be paid in advance unless otherwise agreed in writing. Failure to make payment may result in cancellation of bookings and withdrawal of trading privileges.
1.5 Non-Attendance
Failure to attend a booked market does not entitle the trader to a refund. Repeated non attendance may result in future applications being refused.
1.6 Trading Hours
The core trading hours for Ilford Market are:
9:00am to 6:00pm
All traders must be fully set up and ready to trade by 9:00am.
No trader may commence dismantling, covering products, packing away, moving vehicles or ceasing trade before 6:00pm without prior written approval from the Market Operator.
1.7 Smoking
Smoking and vaping are prohibited within market trading areas except in designated locations.
1.8 Market Cancellation
The Organisers reserve the right to cancel or amend any market at short notice due to weather, public safety concerns, operational requirements, licensing requirements or circumstances beyond their control.
1.9 Refund Policy
Refunds following market cancellation are entirely at the discretion of the Market Operator and may be subject to administrative and licensing deductions.
1.10 Future Bookings
Pitch agreements may be offered weekly, monthly or seasonally. Traders remain liable for agreed fees regardless of attendance unless otherwise agreed in writing.
1.11 Waste Contract Requirement
All regular traders must maintain an active commercial waste contract with the Market's approved waste management provider:

Evidence of a valid waste agreement must be supplied upon request. 1.12 Approved Products
Traders may only sell products approved by the Market Operator and detailed within their application or licence.
1.13 Generators
Only silent generators approved by the Market Operator are permitted. 1.14 Trader Conduct
Traders shall act professionally and respectfully towards customers, businesses, residents, market staff, Council officers and fellow traders at all times.
Abusive, threatening, discriminatory or disruptive behaviour may result in immediate suspension or termination of trading rights.
- MARKET ACCESS AND VEHICLES
2.1 Set-Up Access
Vehicle access for unloading is normally permitted from 7:30am unless otherwise instructed.
2.2 Vehicle Removal
All vehicles must be removed from the market area before trading commences unless expressly authorised by the Market Operator.
2.3 Reversing Vehicles
All reversing manoeuvres must be supervised by a competent banksman. 2.4 Late Arrival
Traders arriving after 9:00am must contact the Market Operator for instructions. Access may be refused where public safety could be compromised.
2.5 Vehicle Standards
All vehicles used in connection with trading must be roadworthy, insured and legally compliant.
- INSURANCE
3.1 Public Liability Insurance
All traders must hold Public Liability Insurance with a minimum indemnity of: £5 Million
3.2 Employer Liability Insurance
Where applicable, traders must maintain Employer Liability Insurance with a minimum indemnity of:

3.3 Evidence of Insurance
Current insurance certificates must be supplied before trading and made available for inspection upon request.
3.4 Trader Responsibility
The Market Operator accepts no liability for loss, theft, damage or injury relating to trader equipment, stock, vehicles or property.
- HEALTH & SAFETY
4.1 Legal Compliance
All traders must comply with all applicable legislation including:
- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
- Food Safety Act 1990
- Food Hygiene Regulations
- Consumer Protection Legislation
- Fire Safety Legislation
- Trading Standards Requirements
4.2 Inspections
Traders may be inspected by:
- Environmental Health
- Trading Standards
- Licensing Officers
- Fire Officers
- Market Management
4.3 Electrical Equipment
All electrical equipment must be PAT tested where required.
4.4 Gas Safety
Gas equipment and cylinders must be installed and operated in accordance with current regulations.
4.5 Fire Equipment
Food traders and traders using electrical or gas equipment must provide suitable fire extinguishers and fire blankets where required.
4.6 Stall Stability
All gazebos must be adequately weighted and secured.
Minimum weights must comply with Market Operator requirements. 4.7 Incident Reporting
All accidents, incidents, near misses and complaints must be reported to the Market Operator immediately.
4.8 Anti-Social Behaviour
Any criminal activity, theft, anti-social behaviour or public safety concern must be reported immediately.
- FOOD TRADERS
5.1 Food Registration
Food businesses must be registered with their local authority & NCASS. 5.2 Food Hygiene Rating
Food traders must provide evidence of food hygiene registration and any requested food safety documentation.
5.3 Food Safety Management
Food businesses must operate an appropriate food safety management system. 5.4 Hand Washing Facilities
Suitable hand washing facilities must be available where required.
5.5 Temperature Control
Food must be stored, transported and displayed at legally compliant temperatures.
- QUALITY CONTROL AND BRAND STANDARDS
6.1 Gazebos
All traders must provide gazebos approved by the Market Operator. 6.2 Market Branding
All traders must comply with Ilford Market branding standards.
6.3 Food Trucks and Catering Vehicles
Food trucks, catering vans and catering trailers must:
- Be clean and professionally presented.
- Be maintained in good condition.
- Be branded or wrapped in accordance with Ilford Market branding standards where required.
- Display the trading business name.
6.4 Uniform Appearance
The Market Operator reserves the right to require specific colours, branding, signage, table coverings and presentation standards.
6.5 Product Displays
Products must be professionally displayed.
Trading from cardboard boxes on the floor is prohibited.
6.6 Display Boundaries
Displays, tables, rails and stock must remain within the allocated pitch boundary. 6.7 Price Display
All products and services must clearly display prices.
6.8 Business Identification
The business trading name must be displayed at all times.
- TRADING STANDARDS
7.1 Payment Methods
Traders are encouraged to accept both cash and card payments.
7.2 Consumer Rights
Traders must comply with all consumer protection legislation.
7.3 Illegal Goods
The sale of counterfeit, prohibited, illegal or unsafe goods is strictly prohibited.
Any trader found selling such goods may be removed immediately and reported to the relevant authorities. All traders must abide by Real Deal policy https://www.realdealmarkets.co.uk/.
- WASTE MANAGEMENT
8.1 Waste Removal
Traders remain responsible for all waste generated by their business. 8.2 Approved Waste Provider
Regular traders must maintain a commercial waste agreement with: First Mile
or any replacement provider approved by the Market Operator.
8.3 Evidence of Compliance
Waste agreements and waste transfer documentation must be produced upon request. 8.4 Illegal Disposal
Waste must not be deposited in:
- Public litter bins
- Council bins
- Retail bins
- Adjacent properties
- Landscaped areas
- Public highways
8.5 Fly-Tipping
Fly-tipping or illegal waste disposal may result in immediate suspension and recovery of any costs incurred.
- PARKING
9.1 Approved Parking Partner
The approved parking partner for Ilford Market is:
Exchange Ilford Shopping Centre
Discounted trader parking may be available subject to approval.
9.2 Parking Compliance
Traders must comply with all parking rules and conditions imposed by Exchange Ilford and the Market Operator.
9.3 Overnight Parking
No vehicle may remain in any approved trader parking facility overnight without prior written permission.
9.4 Storage Prohibition
Car parks must not be used for:
- Storage of stock
- Gazebos
- Tables
- Waste
- Equipment
- Trailers
- Generators
Parking facilities are provided solely for vehicle parking.
9.5 Enforcement
Vehicles parked in breach of these conditions may be subject to enforcement action by the parking operator.
- LOCATION RULES
10.1 Trading Area
Trading shall only take place within designated market areas approved by the Market Operator.
10.2 Shop Frontages
Stalls must not obstruct shop entrances, displays, emergency exits, signage or pedestrian routes.
10.3 Pitch Placement
Pitch placement remains entirely at the discretion of the Market Operator.
- CLEANLINESS
11.1 Pitch Standards
All pitches must be left clean, tidy and free of litter.
11.2 End of Day Clearance
All stock, gazebos, equipment and waste must be removed at the end of each trading day. 11.3 Overnight Storage
No stalls, gazebos, stock, equipment or structures may remain overnight unless specifically authorised.
- EVENTS AND SPECIAL MARKETS
12.1 Event Priorities
The Market Operator reserves the right to reallocate pitches, amend layouts, relocate traders or refuse attendance to accommodate special events, seasonal markets, entertainment programmes, civic events or operational requirements.
12.2 Temporary Relocation
Traders agree to relocate when reasonably requested by the Market Operator.
- ENFORCEMENT
13.1 Breaches
The Market Operator may issue:
- Verbal warnings
- Written warnings
- Suspensions
- Immediate removal from the market
- Termination of trading agreements
for breaches of these Terms and Conditions.
13.2 Persistent Non-Compliance
Repeated breaches may result in permanent exclusion from Ilford Market. 13.3 Recovery of Costs
The Market Operator reserves the right to recover costs arising from damage, waste removal, enforcement action, cleaning or remediation caused by a trader.
13.4 Final Authority
The decisions of Redbridge Council, Ilford BID, Events Inspire and the Market Operator shall be final in all matters relating to market operations and enforcement.
By submitting an application, accepting a pitch, making payment or attending Ilford Market, the trader confirms that they have read, understood and agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions.
