Carried With Us: Coffin Decorating Workshop
[vc_column_text css_animation=”none”]
Carried With Us: A Coffin Decorating Workshop for all ages and an opportunity to talk about dying, death and grief with Let’s Discuss Death.
A workshop exploring grief, mortality, and what we leave behind.
Free, drop in.
What do we do with the things we can’t stop thinking about – a favourite mug, a garden we walked in together, a moment we’d give anything to return to?
In this hands-on workshop, artist Summer Oxley invites you to turn memory into something you can hold.
You’ll create an embossed metal design, capturing an object, a place, or a moment that connects you to someone you’ve lost. These small, luminous pieces will then be used to decorate the exterior of a coffin to form part of the Festival of the Dead.
No artistic experience needed. All materials provided. All ages and abilities welcome.
Alongside Summer, Tilly Munro will have a Let’s Discuss Death stall where you can browse some great books and ask any questions you might have about dying, death and grief. Or if you want to talk, she will listen.
Artist bio
Summer Oxley is a London-based artist and illustrator whose work explores storytelling, nostalgia, memory and finding small joys in difficult times. After experiencing two significant bereavements, Summer returned to study – completing a Masters in Illustration at University of the Arts London – and began creating workshops that bring people together around loss, using making as a way into conversation, connection and understanding.

Tilly Munro is co-founder of Let’s Discuss Death CIC, a community interest company working to improve death and grief literacy in east London. A trained end-of-life doula, she brings over a decade of experience in death and bereavement – including bereavement support with Cruse and work as a funeral director. Let’s Discuss Death is currently developing a partnership with local libraries and the NHS to make end-of-life conversations more accessible to communities who rarely receive that support.
